Day 1 – SORRENTO/ISLE OF CAPRI/SORRENTO - This morning, we leave Sorrento by steamer across the Bay of Naples to the Island of Dreams – the beautiful Isle of Capri. We will celebrate Mass at a local church on the island while there. We start our tour of the island, including Anacapri, and weather permitting, the beautiful Blue Grotto. Our first church is the former Cathedral of St. Stefano, known to locals as Chiesa di Santo Stefano. This 17th century Cathedral was built on the foundations of an earlier Benedictine monastery. The architecture and artistry of this church are breath-taking. We then visit the Church of St. Michael, known as Chiesa di San Michele alla Croce. This 12th century church was built adjacent to a fort and bears resemblance to a fortification. During the English occupation of the Island, it was used as just that, a storage center for gunpowder and arms. We break for lunch on our own near the popular Via Camerelle, the street of boutique shops on Capri. We have ample time to visit some of the shops following our lunch. We then return to Sorrento via boat, for dinner and overnight. |
Day 2– SORRENTO/AMALFI DRIVE/POMPEII/ROME – Today, we drive along the famous Amalfi Coast with stops along the way. Our first stop will be at the Positano’s overlook, where we can take wonderful pictures of the bay area. We continue along Amalfi coast and stroll in the village of Amalfi, as we visit and celebrate Mass at the stunning Cathedral, home to the relics of St Andrew, the patron and protector of Amalfi. Following a stop for lunch on our own, we continue to Pompeii, the Roman City destroyed but yet preserved by the volcanic ash of Vesuvius in 79 AD. We then visit the church of the Holy Rosary, visited by Pope St. John Paul II shortly before his death and site of a Eucharistic miracle. We conclude our journey and return to Rome for dinner and overnight. |
